The National Union of Students (NUS) has called a week of action from 12th to 16th of March, including a mass walk-out of lectures on March 14th, a welcome step forward. Socialist Appeal has produced this leaflet calling for students to build for this walk-out, arguing that the student movement can only be built on a sustained basis by linking arms with the labour movement. We are calling for all students and youth to actively support the walk-out - build for it on campus, go to the demonstrations, discuss with striking workers and students and hand out this leaflet!

The public sector general strike marks an awakening of British workers after a long period of relative dormancy. Opinion polls show a majority of
public support for strike action - a recent BBC poll shows 61% support, rising to 67% among women and 80% among 16-24 year olds. This is just the beginning. This strike will serve to give enormous confidence to ordinary working people faced with Tory austerity.We are calling for all students and youth to actively support the strike - don't go into college, go to picket lines, discuss with striking workers and hand out this leaflet!

School students in England have been out demonstrating in their thousands against increased tuition fees and the scrapping of EMA. Now MSPs are debating the possible introduction of fees in Scotland too - only because the bosses and businessmen don't want to see a small part of their massive profits go to the proper education of all in society. More than this, they want to do away with everything which working people across England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland have fought for, hand in hand, across all na-tional boundaries - the NHS, state welfare, pensions, education; all these services will be lost unless we fight back. This Friday, March 4th support the Edinburgh school student walkout!
