We received this letter from Darnella Daley, a supporter of Militant Student and Labour Party member, who spent the Christmas period in the USA and had the opportunity to meet members of the Workers International League, the American Marxist tendency.

Today we received a letter from a student at New York University (NYU), Cecilia Gingerich, who was a member of the University of London Marxist Society while studying in London in the spring of 2010. She is now a participant in Occupy Wall Street and in her letter gives a first hand account of her experience of the movement from the beginning, her narrowly escaping the mass arrest of the 700 protestors on October 1st and the impact that had on the movement in the following days. Now the unions have joined the protestors on Wall Street, along with walk-outs from high schools and colleges, which Cecilia has participated with students from her own university. A short letter we received detailing one particular experience of a protestor at the TUC demo against the cuts on March 26th...

This letter was sent in by a University of London Union Marxist Society member and UCL student in response to the 'News In Brief' column of the Autumn Term no.2 issue of the Militant Student. That edition of the paper reported a victory for those workers and students campaigning to introduce the London Living Wage for all UCL employees. However, as this letter reports, the fight is far from over as since then university management have qualified their agreement with a number of caveats. We welcome letters of this kind and encourage more of our readership to write in with their thoughts, comments and opinions.
